San Mateo hotel to become Draper University


 

SAN MATEO -- Prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper is moving forward with plans to convert the Benjamin Franklin Hotel, a downtown landmark, into Draper University, a boarding school for entrepreneurs that will draw students from around the globe.


Draper sketched out his plans for the long-vacant hotel, which he and his wife bought in April, in a letter submitted to the city earlier this month by his architect, Tim Murphy Design Associates. The school will likely offer academic credit and feature 10-week courses synced with the quarterly schedule of Stanford University.


"We expect to be a good fit for top students who want to take a quarter off to try something different," the letter said regarding the school, which will teach business fundamentals as well as "creative encouragement." Draper did not respond to messages this week seeking comment, according to a report in Mercury News..  >>More here
